Obituary of George J. Straub

Mr. George J. Straub June 20, 1918 - September 16, 2003 George J. Straub of Whisconier Road, Brookfield, devoted husband of Gertrud (Leppig) Straub, died on Tuesday, September 16th at Harborside Glen Hill, at the age of 85. Mr. Straub was born on June 20, 1918 in Bronx, New York, son of the late Frank and Anna (Gross) Straub. Mr. Straub was a Veteran of World War II serving with the United States 128th Naval Construction Battalion in Guam and the Invasion of Okinawa. He was a firefighter with the New York Fire Department with Rescue Company #3 in the Bronx. He worked as a machinist for several area machine shops and was most recently a school bus driver in the Brookfield School System. Mr. Straub was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, Brookfield. He was a member of the American Legion Post #930 in New York City, and the V.F.W. Post # 10201 in Brookfield. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, and enjoyed repairing automobiles. Besides his loving wife of 35 years he will be sadly missed by his daughter, Gisela Walther and her husband, Detlef of Wuerzburg, Germany; two grandchildren, Melanie Dodson of Wichita Falls, TX., and Jamie Corso of Brookfield. He will also be missed by his brother, Robert Straub of New Fairfield and sister, Grace Killeen of Riveredge, NJ, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 20th at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield at 10:00am. Burial will follow in St. Raymond Cemetery, Bronx, New York. The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, on Friday, September 19th between the hours of 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm.
