Obituary of Joan M. Simmons

Joan M. Simmons February 06, 1933 - December 30, 2010 Joan M. Simmons, 77, formerly of Danbury, wife of the late Wilfred Simmons, died peacefully in Southbury on Thursday, December 30th, after a long battle with breast cancer. She was born in Danbury on February 6, 1933, daughter of the late Casmir and Katherine (Fronce) Puskarczyk. She worked as a companion for Almost Family. Joan was a loving mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards, traveling on family vacations to the ocean, and going to casinos. She will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Nancy Simmons of Danbury, and Laura Fields and her husband, Michael of Danbury; and her son, Michael Simmons and his wife Kathleen of Southbury; her six cherished grandchildren, Wesley, Brenden and Jessie Underhill, Samantha, Tyler and Hunter Simmons; she was also looking forward to the birth of her first great granddaughter, Baby Underhill. She is also survived by her three sisters, Barbara Buczek, Helen Kelly, and Carolyn Managan; her sisters-in-law, Nancy Puskarczyk and Eleanor Simmons; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Charles and Joseph Puskarczyk. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 3rd at 11:00am at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Monday morning between the hours of 9:30 and 10:30am.
