Obituary of William J. Matty
William J. Matty
March 18, 1962 - November 19, 2010
William J. Matty, lovingly known as Billy, of Brookfield, beloved son of Bill Matty and the late Carol (Bene) Matty, and stepson of Susan Matty, died peacefully at his home on Friday, November 19th. He was born in Manchester on March 18, 1962 and was a graduate of New Milford High School, Class of 1981.
Billy was a full time volunteer staff member at the Brookfield YMCA. He proudly received the Volunteer of the Year Award and Certificate which was presented to him by Congresswoman Nancy Johnson in March of 2006. Previously, he worked for The Bristol Co. in Waterbury from 1982 until 1988, and volunteered at the New Milford Animal Welfare from 1990 until 2003.
Billy was happiest going to work and being with his coworkers and YMCA members, who he loved dearly. He was an avid Star Trek fan, loved cats, and was a PEZ collector extraordinaire. He also enjoyed an occasional cigar. He disliked suits, ties and tight shoes; he loved slip on shoes, dungarees, and his YMCA Staff shirts.
In addition to his father and stepmother, Bill and Susan, he will be sadly missed by his brother, Michael Matty and his wife, Jeanne of MA; his two nieces, Emmie and Siobhan Matty; his grandmother, Ethel Bene of Stratford; and his aunt, Irene Hart of Stratford. He is also survived by his dear cousins, Tom and Jon Borysiewicz of Bethel; his loyal friend, George Malash of New Milford; and his beloved cat, Piggy.
He was predeceased by his mother, Carol; his grandfather, Joe Bene; his grandparents, Bill and Jean Matty; his aunt and Godmother, Trish Matty; and his aunt, Jan Borysiewicz. Funeral Information
