Obituary of Ruth E. Eckert

Ruth (Lowman) Eckert, 102, formerly of Brookfield, CT and long-time resident of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, beloved wife of the late Charles Eckert, died peacefully at Masonicare, Lockwood Lodge in Newtown, CT on Friday, October 6, 2017.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 5, 1915, daughter of the late Samuel and Clara (Egli) Lowman.  After graduating from Heffley Business College, Ruth worked on Wall Street as a private secretary for Goldfield's American Development Co. Ltd. for many years.  She was also proud of her time spent as a civilian air aid operator during World War II.

Prior to making her home in Brookfield, Ruth lived in Edina, MN, moving there in 1985 to be with her daughter and family, where she was an active member of Christ Presbyterian Church.  Prior to Edina, Ruth lived in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ for over 40 years.  There she was an active member of First United Methodist Church, sang in the choir, and served as a president of the United Methodist Women.  She was also a member of the Eastern Star and The Women’s Club of Hasbrouck Heights.  Upon making her home in Brookfield she enjoyed attending the Congregational Church of Brookfield, and was a founding member of the Serendippers group.

Ruth's faith was a constant in her life.  In her younger years she found great peace studying at Unity Village in Missouri.  She encouraged others through her faith and often purchased subscriptions to the "Daily Word" for those she knew would benefit from it.

Described by many as a true lady, she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.  She is survived by her daughter, Claire Horner and her husband, Dick of Windsor, CT; her grandchildren, Eric Horner and his wife, Susan of Wilmette, IL, and Merredith Christos and her husband, James of Newtown, CT; and her great grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob and Jackson Christos, and Charlotte Horner.

Funeral services will be held at the Christ First United Methodist Church, 57 Burton Ave., Hasbrouck Heights, NJ on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 11:30am.  Burial will follow in George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s name either to the Christ United Methodist Church, or Unity Worldwide Ministries, PO Box 610, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063.
