Obituary of Karl F. Bothner

Karl F. Bothner, 78, of Danbury, cherished husband of Janet (Liptak) Bothner, died at Danbury Hospital on Sunday, January 1st. He was born in the Bronx, New York on August 2, 1938, son of the late Ernest and Sophie (Heimsch) Bothner. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Church. Karl was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving during peacetime. He spent his career working for ConEdison, attaining the position of a gas emergency man, playing a major part in preventing gas explosions during fire emergencies. He retired after more than 40 years with ConEdison. First and foremost, Karl was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His life centered on his family and they were his greatest joy. He was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins and the New York Yankees. He also enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino. He was a member of the Interstate Fireman's Bowling League at the Brookfield Lanes. He was proud of once bowling a perfect game. Karl was well known for his contagious laugh that was unforgettable In addition to his beloved wife of 56 years, Janet, he will be sadly missed by his son, Karl S. Bothner and his wife, Donna; his two daughters, Lorraine A. Amaral and her husband, Kenneth, and Cherlyn M. Emmans; his three grandsons, Justin Emmans, Tyler and Lucas Amaral. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, James Emmans; and his sister, Elsie Murnan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 5th at 10:00am at St. Gregory the Great Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Wednesday evening between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00pm.
