Obituary of Louis Charles Smith

Louis C. Smith Sr., 82 of New Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Florence (Lobraico) Smith, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, August 14, 2016. He was born on June 10,1934 in New York, NY but was a New Fairfield resident for over 72 years. Louie was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during peacetime as a member of the Honor Guard. He was also an intricate member of the New Fairfield Volunteer Fire Dept. He loved bowling especially with the Fireman’s League. He also enjoyed his Poker “nights” with the boys. His biggest love was softball where he was known at Memorial Field for his pitching abilities. Throughout the neighborhood at his home softball field he was known as “Uncle Louie”. His primary job was as a mason, although he also owned “Frenchie’s Fuel Oil” and also a hardware store in Bethel. During his retirement, he also helped out at the Village Hardware store in NF. He will be sadly missed by his son, Louis Smith Jr., and his girlfriend, Marie Perry; his daughters, Maria Bogues and her husband, Randal; Kim Hamed and her husband, James and his nine grandchildren; Staci (Matt) Ovittore, James Hamed Jr., Nicholas Hamed, Stefania (Brian) Kinzig, Lindsay, Haley, and R.J. Bogues, Zachary and Travis Smith; and his six great grandchildren, Sabrina Bogues, Brennan, Emma and Aria Kinzig, Sofia Bogues, Kiarra Hamed and Ayden Ovittore and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Magini and Lois Donofrio. We would like to thank all his caregivers for their dedication, love and special personal touch especially “Muscles” for her wonderful singing abilities. Funeral services will be held at the New Life United Methodist Church in New Fairfield on Saturday, August 20th at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury on Friday between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in his memory may be made to the New Fairfield Volunteer Fire Company A, 302 Ball Pond Road, New Fairfield, CT 06812.
