Obituary of Alfred Charles Smith
Alfred C. Smith, 88, of Mabel Ave, Danbury, beloved husband of the late Alberta (Hanley) Smith, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his cherished daughters, on Friday, June 24th. He was born in Danbury on June 12, 1928, son of the late Charles Smith and Melissa (Lee) Spiers. He was a graduate of Danbury High School and Henry Abbot Technical School.
Alfred was a Veteran of United States Army, proudly serving in the front line of the Korean War. He was a member of the Beaver Brook Volunteer Fire Department for 69 years, and worked as an oil burner serviceman for Hoffman Fuel.
Alfred devoted his life to his wife, daughters, and their families. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time in Vermont. He loved the Yankees, UConn Basketball, and NASCAR.
He will be sadly missed by his four daughters, Diane Smith, with whom he shared his home, Debra Voytek and her husband, Skip, Cindy Stavola, and Melissa Hrabcsak and her husband, Michael; his grandchildren, Brian and Matthew Smith, Jennifer Staton and her husband, Joseph, Sharon Stavola, Ashley and Brittany Hrabcsak; his two great grandchildren, Karina and Kaydan Staton. He is also survived by his sister, Clara Silkman; his brother-in-law, Albert Hanley; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Roland Smith; and his son-in-law, Michael J. Stavola.
Funeral Services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Monday, June 27th at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery, Brookfield, with military honors.
The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home on Monday between the hours of 10:00am and 11:00am.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the VA; his caregiver, Katia; and the staff of Masonicare, for all their care and devotion.
Memorial Contributions may be made in his memory to the Beaver Brook Volunteer Fire Department.
