Obituary of Eleanor Marie Scheer

Eleanor Marie Scheer, 77, returned to her heavenly home on January 25, 2016 after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. Eleanor was born in Danbury, to the late Albert S. Sr. and Lovina Mead, on May 7, 1938. A lifelong resident of Danbury having graduated from DHS Class ‘56, she retired from the City of Danbury Board of Education as a bookkeeper and later retired from Contact Systems Inc. , Danbury in 1992. Eleanor was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Danbury Council of Veterans where she served as a driver and escort for Gold Star Mothers. She enjoyed volunteering, crocheting, jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frederick R Scheer Sr., in 2005. In 2006 she made her new home and new life in Port Orange, FL where she continued her volunteering and made many new friends. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne McCormick; step-son, Frederick Scheer Jr. (Debbie); two step-daughters, Virginia Ann Scheer-Huff and Debra Trocolla; nine grandchildren, Frank, Mark, Carrie, Danielle, Gary, Christopher, Kristen, Thomas and Justin; and 14 great grandchildren, her brother, Albert S Mead Jr. (Joan), a cousin Theo-Jane Gammie and a niece & nephew. She was predeceased by her sister Barbara Mead. Calling hours will be on Sunday, January 31st from 2:00-4:00pm at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury. Funeral Service will be held Monday, February 1st at 11:00 AM at St. James Episcopal Church, 25 West Street, Danbury. Memorial donations may be made to St. James Episcopal Church or a favorite charity.
